1.To administer and implement different Livestock and Fisheries Policies and act as pronounced/described by the Government.
2.To collect and store sectorial data and establishment departmental (Livestock and Fisheries) data base for District and National use.
3.To prepare department yearly budget (for projects and daily departmental activities), monitor and evaluate implementation (M&E) and control of funds disbursed for department use.
4.To organize, oversee and conduct different training to livestock and fisheries extension staff (improving skills and ability), Livestock keepers and Fishermen (through embellishment of properly managed (FFS).
5.To advise and assist village leaders on creation and establishment of bylaws (village livestock by laws and regulations).
6.To team up with other organizations with similar sectorial activities such as Researchers and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) working within and outside the district.
7.To monitor livestock diseases incidences (disease surveillance), control outbreaks (through vaccinations) and supervision of disease treatment.
8.To ensure public health safety by proper control of zoonotic diseases through meat inspection (ante and post mortem inspection) and proper disposal of animals purported to carry zoonotic diseases.
9.To control livestock marketing movement through inspection of livestock on transit (inspect for disease and any health related problems), issuing movement permit and proper collection of Government treasuries.
10.To improve water availability for livestock use and improve tick borne diseases spreading by ensuring even distribution of charcoal dams and cattle dips throughout the district range land.
11.Maintaining and ensuring appropriate working of all livestock and fisheries infrastructures through proper and timely monitoring and supervision.
12.To advice on proper utilization of pasture (range) land through improvement of natural pasture species, demarcate pasture land and introduction of new improved pasture species that suits the environment.
13.To improve livestock and fisheries productivity through introduction of improved breeds and advice on proper husbandry.
14.To control illegal fishing through proper education on fishing activities, registration and provision of fishing licenses to fishermen, also by improving patrol in both fishing bodies found in the district.
